Marci Evans dietitian

Marci Evans

Marci is a Food and Body Imager Healer®. She has dedicated her career to counseling, supervising, and teaching in the field of eating disorders. She is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and Supervisor, Adjunct Professor, Co-developer of the Simmons University Dietetic Internship Eating Disorders Specialty Track, and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.

Marci has two professional passions. The first is working in partnership with her clients to help them heal their relationship to food, exercise, and their bodies and by extension themselves. The second is elevating the field of nutrition through teaching and supervising dietitians on how to effectively counsel people with eating disorders. She is both an educator and practitioner – both realms of work informing and enhancing one another.

Marci deeply believes in the power of human connection and self-compassion to foster growth and powerful transformation. As she often says “my clients possess the inner wisdom they need to heal and grow, I just help them find it.” Marci feels immense gratitude for a career that helps her to learn and grow everyday.

Clinical Work

Marci specializes in and works exclusively within the eating disorders and disordered eating field. She utilizes a weight inclusive approach to wellness and is a fierce believer that health cannot be captured by a single number. Her work is informed by Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size® principles. In particular, she is known for her expertise related to the intersection of gut health and eating disorders, body image, and the role of the nutrition professional in eating disorders treatment.

Marci maintains a private practice dedicated to helping her clients heal from the effects of disordered eating and eating disorders. Her deepest and most profound learning has come from her clients.

Teaching, Training, and Education

In 2015, Marci developed the first online training institute designed specifically to educate and empower dietitians to work in the field of eating disorders. She is proud of her online institute and looks forward to continuing to build her library of training opportunities in the coming years. In addition to her online teaching, she is an internationally recognized and sought after speaker. She loves developing and giving talks and workshops to her fellow colleagues.

Since 2012, Marci worked as adjunct faculty at The Eating Disorder Institute at Plymouth State University where she taught graduate students and clinicians the art and science of nutrition counseling for eating disorders. In 2016 she was invited by Simmons University to join their faculty and serve as co-director and developer of their eating disorders specialty dietetic internship alongside her friend, colleague, and mentor Lisa Pearl. She feels fortunate to help strengthen the profession of eating disorders by educating and empowering the next generation of clinicians.

Marci discovered her passion for working with eating disorders during her dietetic internship at California State University Long Beach. Through an elective rotation at Center for Discovery, Marci was drawn to the complexity of eating disorders, the collaborative treatment approach, as well as the opportunity to work in a long-term way with her clients.

Marci’s career as a nutrition and wellness expert began at the newly established Wellness Center at the Central Utah Medical Clinic in Provo, Utah. As a new and highly motivated dietitian, Marci was the first nutrition director and only nutrition expert at the medical clinic.

In 2009, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Applied Nutrition with an emphasis in business entrepreneurship and eating disorders counseling at Northeastern University. It was through her academic experience at NEU that she gained the tools and confidence to establish her private practice in late 2009. In one short year her practice grew and she feels extremely fortunate to have recruited and worked with several skilled and truly wonderful RDNs in her practice. Several years later, she’s grateful she took the risk to open her own practice and can’t imagine spending her time doing anything else.

Marci is an active member of many local, national and international organizations, which include:

  • The Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association (MEDA)
  • The Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH)
  • The International Association for Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp)

She also shares her professional passions on social media so be sure to connect with her online @marcird.

Does she have a life outside of work?

Believe it or not, Marci does have a bit of a life that has absolutely nothing to do with eating disorders! When she isn’t busy with work, she loves curling up with a good book, traveling both stateside and internationally, eating ethnic cuisine, bike riding, playing with her kids, and laughing as much as possible.
