I Survived Being Audited & Lived to Tell the Tale
At the end of August I was enjoying my summer vacation in Maine. While strolling along and soaking up the gorgeous end of summer weather I made the terrible mistake of checking my inbox. To my surprise, I received an email informing me that I was being audited by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR). More specifically, I was being audited in my role as an accredited provider of continuing education through CDR.
Ironically, at the same time, a dear dietitian friend of mine reached out in a panic as she was at risk of losing her registration due to issues surrounding her continuing education. Eek!
The good news is that both my friend and I passed our audits. Hallelujah! The downside is that it took a toll on our time, energy, and to some extent our well-being. Audits are stressful!! And if you are a licensed professional there is a strong likelihood you’ll be audited at some point.
So I thought I’d share with you a couple of “lessons learned” from my recent experience:
- Find an accountability buddy and force yourself to spend 1 hour in the coming week to update your continuing education portfolio. Don’t let procrastination be your enemy! I’m typically on top of this but with the crazy year I’ve had I’m way behind. So each of you are serving as my accountability buddy!
- Read the fine print. Some of the most stressful elements of my audit were due to the fact that I skipped over the fine print. I take my role as continuing professional education provider very seriously. I LABOR over providing evidence-based, cutting edge content. But it was the little details I scrolled over that ended up causing me the most trouble.
- Don’t let your passion for learning get squelched by the important (but cumbersome) process of tracking your education. Follow your curiosity and let it take you to fascinating places of discovery! In the coming year I can’t wait to expand my knowledge in gut health, trauma informed care, and somatic work. I’d love to know what’s on the docket for you!!
Many of you reading this have utilized me as a resource for your continuing education. Thank you!!
Whether it’s with a free meditation, clinical supervision, or one of my online training programs, you have trusted me to help you evolve and grow. It means so very much to me. I strive for all of my offerings, including these emails, to be useful and meaningful.
And with FNCE right around the corner I figured it was a great time to celebrate education with an upcoming deal on my online programs. So stay tuned for more details!!
Warmly,
